Why we make them
Every pair is cut and stitched by Fatarazy Segla, an artist who has spent years covering shoes in kente and African print. When you order, we order from him. There is no factory in the middle.
For work like his, there isn't much of a market outside tourism, and tourism doesn't reach everyone. A pair sold here is steady work in his shop, which is the point of the whole thing.
Every shoe starts as a pair that already exists. We give it a second life instead of putting a new one into the world, and because the cloth is cut by hand, no two come out the same.
ReKente comes out of The Essence of Ghana, which has been taking people to Ghana for years. This is for the times you can't go. Something of Ghana to keep with you, and to bring home.
